UN WOMEN 🇺🇳 Truly an honor to be officially welcomed by Sima Bahous, UN Under-Secretary-General and UN Women Executive Director  at the UN Women offices in New York 🇺🇳Sima hails from Jordan and her rise to this post is an inspiring story for women everywhere!My day at the UN Women office started at 10:30 in the morning and ended close to 5pm at the UN HQ grounds. Meetings were one after the other on areas of interest and focus of UN Women globally. I have always believed when you invest in a woman - when you educate her, empower her economically with opportunity and access - you don’t just improve a woman’s plight but her whole family’s. Education is the ultimate equalizer. Having said that, gender equality starts at home - in our schools and our own country. A nation that respects women, gives them the freedom to be who they want to be benefits from the voice that women have to offer. Women in positions of leadership and having them at the negotiating table makes a difference.There is exciting work ahead. In the latest UN Philippines, ILO, UNFPA & UNWomenPH conference, we dissected weaknesses in the system & cultural biases that make it harder for women to run for office. UN Security Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace & Security is a flagship resolution that is exemplied in BARRM. It was inspiring to hear from Froilyn Mendoza, a grass roots IP organizer who now sits in the BARRM parliament 🙏🏻 Mysoginistic attacks against women lawmakers were also a big part of our discussion and how as a people play a role in perpetuating and tolerating it.
